You will never reach your goals if you have a great workout routine, but your diet is lousy. This is probably the hardest thing for most people to adapt to, and also probably the reason you do not see everybody who spends a lot of time and effort in the gym having the body that their input deserves.
If you are putting in the effort and discipline by going to the gym, why not see the results you deserve? Why waste your time going to the gym if you are seeing no results – or even mediocre results?
Before you can craft a diet to help achieve your goals you should first understand the basic nutrients and how they impact you achieving the physique you want.
Calories
Calories provide fuel that your body requires to function. Calories come from three dietary sources: protein, carbohydrates, and fats.
Now when constructing a diet you will need to consider that 1 gram of protein and carbohydrates is equivalent to 4 calories, and 1 gram of fat is equivalent to 9 calories. As you can see, there are 2.25 times as many calories in fat as there are in protein and carbohydrates. That should give you an idea of how easy it is for fat to significantly add to your daily caloric intake.
