How To Do Military/Shoulder Press

This is a great compound exercise movement for the shoulders and is called military press by some and shoulder press by others. This exercise can be performed seated or standing. Primary muscles used in this exercise are the deltoids. Secondary muscles used in this exercise are the triceps, traps and forearms.

To perform the military press grip the bar a little wider than shoulder width apart. As you press the bar up move it in an explosive manner, lowering the weight back down in a controlled slower manner.

To keep the tension on your shoulders throughout the exercise try and not lock out your elbows at the top of the movement. This will help take away the tension on your triceps and place it solely on your shoulders.
