This is a great compound exercise movement for the triceps. Primary muscles used in this exercise are the triceps. Secondary muscles used in this exercise are the forearms, deltoids, chest, back and the traps.
To perform lying tricep extensions lay down flat on a bench having your head slightly hanging over the edge. If you are going real heavy on this exercise it is a good idea to have someone hand you the weight rather than lifting it up like I do in the video. With the bar lifted up over your chest, lower the bar back by bending your elbows letting the bar go back over your head. By going over your head you are able to get a better stretch in this exercise utilising your triceps more. Power the weight back to the starting position above your chest.
