How To Do Decline Bench Press

Decline bench press is a variation of the normal bench press and as the name suggests performed on a decline angle to target the lower chest. The primary muscles used in this exercise are the lower pectorals. Secondary muscles used are the upper and mid pectorals, front delts, traps, triceps, upper and lower back.

This exercise may take a little time to get use to but once you get comfortable with it you will be able to handle quite some heavy weight.

To perform the decline bench press lay down on the bench and place your shins against the pads, pushing up against them for extra force and stability while performing the exercise.

Remove the bar from the rack and lower it down at a moderate pace making sure you control the weight and not just let it drop. Lower the weight down to the bottom of your sternum getting as close without touching as possible. Power the bar back up to the starting position and repeat the process.
