In a previous article, I have discussed how high intensity cardiovascular training is the most efficient way of reducing body fat. However, what fitness machine is actually the best for this type of exercise?
My personal preference would be an elliptical trainer or an exercise bike, over treadmills. Treadmills tend to put a lot of impact on the joints, and you are required to run quite rigorously to really elevate your heart rate. Faster running, equates to heavier impact on joints.
With an elliptical trainer or recumbent exercise bike, there is little (if any) impact on the joints. Instead, you can focus on pedalling as fast as possible without putting pressure on your joints.
When choosing a fitness machine, my second piece of advice would be to look for a feature on the machine that allows you to measure the distance travelled or calories burnt. Most exercise equipment in the gym or home will have this feature in place. The exact numbers are not important; however, they allow you to try and always strive to beat the distance and calories burnt when doing the same exercise. This is a vital step as it will help you raise your intensity level every time.
Select a time between 15 and 20 minutes and stick to it each time you do that exercise. That way you can compare your results all the time on what you achieved through your previous effort. If you are not beating your previous distance travelled or calories burnt on a regular basis then you are not pushing yourself hard enough.
As long as you are comfortable performing on a fitness machine, any exercise you choose is fine – just make sure you are always striving to push yourself out of your comfort zone if you want to see results fast.
